A very basic and simple PDF reader
Looking for a full-screen PDF reader? Open PDF + is one of them, even if it's not the best software of this nature. This application makes the most of the Windows 8 interface to show us on a full screen on all the PDFs or documents we need to view (text documents or spreadsheets can be opened as PDFs). And it's also compatible with the Windows 10 full-screen mode, although the latter isn't enabled by default as it is in W8 or W8.1.
Open PDF + is just like any other PDF reader, as it doesn't offer us anything special. It has a very basic Metro-style interface (visually, it's not too great), and that makes it ideal to concentrate on reading without hardly any distractions. One of its most useful aspects is that we can open online documents thanks to Microsoft OneDrive.
It doesn't allow us to carry out tasks such as underlining or editing, functions that we can access in Adobe PDF Reader for instance, but we'll have all the basics:
- Zoom in and out.
- Change the layout of the pages.
- Choose the viewing mode.
- Print the document.
- Search within the document (compatible with OCR).
One of the drawbacks of the application is that after using it twice, it asks us to purchase the application compulsorily or to download any other application by default.
It looks like the adverts it shows on the PDF documents aren't enough. The application is classified in the Windows Store as a free program, but once we download and install it, we'll soon realize that it's a trial software. Apart from that, if you use it often you'll soon that it freezes when running in the background.
